Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: So, what do you do?
A: LOTS!! We hold various events that meet the Four S’s. There
are Sisterhood events, meant to foster a bond of sisterhood among
members and let us get to know each other better. We also hold study
sessions and keep a list of courses that members have taken, to achieve
the Scholarship ideal. Social events we hold include mixers and a formal
dance, and we host and participate in various philanthropic events as
part of our Service. We also have weekly meetings, to deal with the
chapter business and keep members informed.
Q: Where’s the keg?
A: Nowhere to be found. KKG has a strict alcohol policy, which we
follow at all times. All events where there is alcohol require
third-party service and security. Underage drinking is not permitted at
any events, and chapter funds are never used to purchase alcohol.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Yes, there is a cost for being a member of KKG. We pay an
annual fee to our Headquarters, which covers their administrative costs,
pays for a toll-free support phone line, and helps fund scholarships
open to undergraduate members, among other things. We also have chapter
dues, which all goes toward running the chapter and events. After dues
are paid at the beginning of term, all events are free to members.
Basically, you are prepaying for all of the stuff you will get later
(kind of like tuition!). We also understand the financial constraints
of being in university, and offer payment plans to all members and new
members.
Q: What’s the initiation?
A: That is secret to members only. But we can assure you that
there is no hazing at any time, to new members or actives. All of the
ritual of KKG is meant to be significant and meaningful to members, not
to cause emotional stress.
Q: What if I go on Co-op?
A: Membership into Kappa Kappa Gamma is a lifetime membership,
which offers much to its undergraduate members as well as alumna. When
you go on co-op (or home for the summer), you are still a member of the
chapter and invited to come to events and participate in initiation
activities.
Q: Where’s your house?
A: Zeta Omega Chapter is an unhoused chapter, meaning that we do
not have a house of our own. As a young chapter in fraternity-years, we
aren’t yet at the point where we would have a house.
Q: How do I join?
A: Head to the Join Kappa page, submit your information, and
we’ll send you all the information you need.
