Dear Parents and concerned
readers,
We’d like to alleviate some fears you may have about sororities, and
dispel some myths surrounding them as well. There is much more to our organisation that what you have seen on TV or in the movies.
A main focus of KKG is Leadership. This is easily evident from the
letterhead that KKG uses:

Every year, there is a Leadership Academy hosted by the Fraternity. One
delegate from each chapter is sent to spend the weekend at the Academy,
learning about leadership and ways to become a good leader. She then
shares her knowledge with the rest of the chapter when she returns, and
we all benefit. There are also many workshops available to us that help
us develop leadership, communication, organization, etc. skills.
Alcohol/Partying
Sororities (and women’s fraternities) are not all about the next big
party, or when we’re going to the bar next. While there are some that
are, Zeta Omega of Kappa Kappa Gamma is not one of them. We have joined
KKG
to become part of an organization that helps its members grow and become
leaders. There are events that have alcohol, but that is never the focus
of the event, and it is always strictly monitored. Underage drinking at
events is not permitted, under any circumstances. We do not discourage
members from consuming alcohol, but we do encourage them to drink
responsibly.
Hazing
Never at any time is it alright to haze a member or a new member.
KKG
has a very strict anti-hazing policy, which is followed and enforced in
our chapter. For example, at no time will a member be asked to perform
an embarrassing task, close her eyes, kneel or be blindfolded. We do
not permit anything that would cause someone to feel uncomfortable or
singled out. Hazing ruins the experience for everyone, and we’d rather
spend our time having fun.
Stereotypes
We are not the typical sorority girls seen in the movies and on TV. We
are an enthusiastic group of women who are joined by Kappa, and have
become close friends. We focus on Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and
Social. Our goal is to enhance the time we spend at university, and gain
an experience that will stay with us forever. Zeta Omega Chapter does
not have a house that we all live in, our members live in their own
accommodations. We also come from many different faculties and
backgrounds, with different interests, political leanings and religious
beliefs. From this, we have become a diverse chapter, with room for
everything except discrimination.
We hope that we have helped you understand us better, and alleviated
some of your worries. If you have any other questions or concerns,
please contact us. Chances are if you want to know, someone else does
too.
Thank you for your time,
Zeta Omega Chapter |
